With the death of Vladimir Kagan in 2016, the design world lost one of its most celebrated practitioners. In addition to illuminating Kagan’s unique impact on postwar American design, the book tells the incredible story of his life and retains a moving foreword by Tom Ford and a poignant preface by the late architect Zaha Hadid. It also includes a new afterword by Chris Eitel, who began as an intern at Kagan’s design studio in 2013 and quickly became his protégé, offering an intimate look at the designer and the man. Through this firsthand account, Kagan’s life and work are better contextualized and his legacy more clearly illuminated.

Author Biography
Vladimir Kagan is one of the most widely acclaimed designers of our time. Born in Germany, he and his family fled Nazism and settled in New York. His brilliant success as a craftsman and furniture designer is based on combining the functional sensibility of modernism with comfort and a softer, more welcoming aesthetic.
