Bulgari Book: Beyond Time by Assouline

Description

Discover the definitive book on Bulgari's rich relationship with watchmaking in Bulgari: Beyond Time. The book's global perspective celebrates more than a century of Roman-inspired craftsmanship, comprehensively chronicling the manufacture's Swiss-Italian watchmaking achievements through hundreds of original, captivating images and fascinating conversations with the most leading specialists in the business.

A true holistic exploration of the art of timekeeping, this title explores Bulgari's iconoclastic past, present and future, amplifying a multitude of voices to highlight the underlying motive, which Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari , described as “giving shape to emotion, especially when that emotion meets time” – behind the house's various signature watch collections, including Haute Joaillerie, Serpenti, Bvlgari Bvlgari, Octo and Grandes Complications. Antoine Pin, general director of Bulgari watches, expresses this conviction by affirming that “products are never simple products: emotions and meanings are attached to each, from those who create them to those who experience them”. Experiencing a Bulgari watch is more than just determining the hours, minutes and seconds of the day; it is also the discovery of a microcosm of the movement which, as the title of the book suggests, transcends time.

Insightful essays from an iconic group of the world's most famous personalities whose personal achievements dovetail with the soul of each watch collection brilliantly connect the narrative - both historically and emotionally -: the famous jewelry auctioneer of Christie's Rahul Kadakia discusses gemstones; Performance art superstar Marina Abramović talks about snakes; Italian actor, screenwriter and director Alessandro Gassmann returns to Rome; Carl Lewis, nine-time Olympic gold medalist in track and field, explains the art of breaking records; and award-winning conductor Lorenzo Viotti provides the mental soundtrack to complex musical moments.

The story ends with a stimulating conversation hosted by renowned futurist Adam Steel with industrial designer Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Antoine Pin and Babin. This exchange is an invitation to imagine what watches will look like for future generations. A future described by Bulgari as establishing new emotional connections between centuries of human endeavor and watchmaking tradition with the possibilities of tomorrow, whether here or beyond Earth itself.
