In the early 1900s, former oil baron Henry Morrison Flagler became interested in the South Florida coast and began developing an exclusive resort community. Establishing a railroad that would allow easier access to the area, he then built two hotels - he hoped that early American families would come to populate the area. This modest community would later become an iconic American destination, hosting British royalty, American movie stars and becoming a home away from home for some of the country's leading families.
