    About the Author

    Formerly editor-in-chief of the newspaper Le Point, Catherine Pgard was appointed advisor to President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007. Since 2011, she has been president of the Public Establishment of the Château, Museum and National Estate of Versailles. Catherine Pgard was named Knight of the Legion of Honor in 2012.

    Holder of a doctorate from the Sorbonne, Mathieu da Vinha is the author of numerous articles and works and regularly participates in interviews and broadcasts on the theme of Versailles. Specializing in the affairs of the French court and the daily functioning of the Palace of Versailles under the Ancien Régime, he published Le Versailles de Louis XIV (2009); Versailles for Dummies, co-written with Raphaël Masson (2011); Versailles: History, dictionary and anthology (co-editor, 2015); In the service of the king: Behind the scenes of Versailles (2015); In Marie-Antoinette's Wardrobe (2018); and Living at the court of Versailles in 100 questions (2018).
